Once you’ve passed the Sant’Antioco seafront promenade, take a dirt cycle path leading to the first stops on the tour: the beaches of Calasetta, perfect for a refreshing break with a dip in the crystal-clear waters of Sottotorre, Le Saline and Spiaggia Grande, the latter overlooking the historic disused tuna trap and offering views of the island of San Pietro. Resuming the ride along the coast, you continue with the Mangiabarche lighthouse on your right, a symbolic and striking feature of the landscape. From here, the route leads to one of the most spectacular spots on the entire island: the cliffs of Nido dei Passeri, overlooking the sea, where nature displays all its power and beauty.

A Tour of the Island – Among flamingos, cliffs and the open sea
A comprehensive and varied route that takes in the whole of the island of Sant’Antioco, taking in wetlands, rugged coastlines and seaside villages. The route starts in the centre of Sant’Antioco, leaving the town behind immediately to take a dirt track surrounded by nature, which runs alongside a pond populated by flamingos and herons. You reach the beaches of Is Pruinis, then cycle gently past the coves of Portixeddu to arrive at Maladroxia, a seaside resort perfect for a short break.
From here, you cross the Canai plain until you reach the top of the hill overlooking the stunning cove of Cala Sapone. Central and Southern Italy – Tomba dei Giganti, Nuraghe Grutti: water and timeless views
A fascinating route combining nature, archaeology and history, ideal for those who enjoy cycling through Mediterranean scrub, along ancient paths and past sites dating back thousands of years. The route starts in the centre of Sant’Antioco and heads south, leaving the town behind to enter a landscape where rocks, scrub and gentle climbs blend into an authentic and peaceful setting.
Follow the tarmac road uphill to the hamlet of Bega Giomitri, where a dirt track branches off to the left, leading to an old military battery from the Second World War, now silent yet steeped in history. Continue towards the Triga Valley, a scene straight out of a fairy tale, enclosed by hills that seem to harbour abandoned nuraghi and vegetation-covered promontories.
At a crossroads, you enter the Piana di Cannai, passing through cultivated fields and past curious hay figures, until you reach the historic heart of the island: here you will find the striking Tomba dei Giganti, the vast nuragic complex of Grutti Acqua, and an ancient medau (rural village). It is a journey back in time, into the silence of the Sardinian countryside.
The route continues along a dirt track to the junction by the old naval traffic lights, and from there returns to tarmac as far as Fontana Cannai, from where it descends towards Maladroxia beach. The route concludes by crossing a mixed section between Su Forru 'e macchina beach and Is Pruinis, finally following a dirt track between the sea and a pond – a habitat for flamingos – which takes cyclists to the tourist promenade of Sant’Antioco.
