Just a stone’s throw from Palma de Sols, nestled amongst lush green hills and little-used footpaths, lies one of Sant’Antioco’s most fascinating (and least known) archaeological treasures: the Grutti ā€˜e Acqua Nuragic Complex. A place where time has stood still, and the stone tells millennia-old stories of life, worship and ingenuity. šŸŗšŸŒ„

šŸ“ Where is it?

In the central-eastern part of the island, in the area known as Grutti ā€˜e Acqua, the site can be reached via a short walk along dirt tracks that branch off not far from Palma de Sols. Set amidst unspoilt natural surroundings, it is ideal for those who enjoy walking and exploring.

🧱 What will you find?

The nuragic complex consists of:

  • a single-tower nuraghe built of trachyte blocks, still imposing and clearly visible

  • a picturesque sacred spring, used for rituals associated with water, a sacred element for the Nuragic people

This site is important because it demonstrates the continuity of settlement between the Bronze Age and the period that followed, and reveals a great deal about the island’s ancient social organisation.

🌿 Why visit it from Palma de Sols?

Because in just a few minutes you can find yourself immersed in a civilisation from 3,000 years ago, in an authentic setting, free from barriers and crowds. Here, you’re not a tourist; you’re a time traveller. What’s more, the tranquillity of the area and the surrounding landscape offer you a deep connection with nature and history.

🄾 Practical tips:

  • Wear walking boots; the path may be uneven

  • Bring water and a hat – there’s no shade

  • It’s best to go with a local guide or after finding out about the route

šŸ‘‰ The Grutti ā€˜e Acqua Nuragic Site is a little gem that combines archaeology, spirituality and adventure. If you’re in Palma de Sols, it’s a must-see to experience Sardinia’s most ancient spirit first-hand.
