Flamingos in Sant'Antioco
š Where to go?
There are two perfect places to see flamingos in the wild:
š¦ Santa Caterina Pond
Situated along the road linking SantāAntioco to Calasetta, it is a natural oasis where flamingos stop to feed and rest. At certain times of day ā especially at dawn and dusk ā the water reflects their pink colour in a breathtaking play of light. Thereās no need to stray too far from the road: simply stop, remain silent and watch.

š¦ Sa Punta de SāAliga Pond
More untamed and less well-known, it is situated on the islandās southern coast. It is the ideal spot for those seeking a closer connection with nature. Here you can see flamingos wading in the shallow water or flying in formation, surrounded by herons, black-winged stilts and other migratory species.

šø Tips for observing:
Bring a pair of binoculars or a telephoto lens with you
Wear neutral colours
Walk slowly, in silence
Be patient⦠nature reveals itself to those who know how to wait
šæ When is the best time to go?
Flamingos can be seen all year round, but the best times to visit are in spring and late summer, when the flocks are larger and more active. At sunset, the spectacle takes on an almost magical quality.
