If you’re in the Palma de Sols area and looking for a peaceful, rejuvenating experience in close contact with nature, grab your walking boots and set off to explore the salt flats of Sant’Antioco. A landscape suspended between earth and sky, where humans have left their mark without upsetting the balance of the place. 🌾🌅

📍 Where are they located?
The salt flats are located just outside the town of Sant’Antioco, along the road leading to Portoscuso. They are easily accessible by car or bike and offer flat paths that are ideal for relaxing walks or gentle hikes.

🌿 What to expect along the way:
Salt collection basins that change colour depending on the light and the season: pink, purple, light blue
Vast, quiet and surreal landscapes, perfect for clearing your mind
Encounters with local wildlife: pink flamingos, herons, black-winged stilts and other species typical of wetlands
Old disused industrial buildings, a reminder of the island’s salt-making past
📸 Useful tips:
Head out at sunset: the low sun transforms everything into a golden palette
Bring water, a hat and sun cream with you: there are no shaded areas
Also ideal for families and less experienced walkers
Photography enthusiasts will find some unique views
🧭 Suggested route:
Start on the western side of the salt pans, following the channels towards the sea. The path is flat and suitable for everyone. You can round off your walk with a break on the beach or head back to the village by following the edge of the salt pans.
👉 The salt flats of Sant’Antioco are not just a landscape… they are a sensory experience, made up of shifting colours, salty smells and endless skies. A timeless hike, amidst nature and memories.
